Construction Output Revisions

Following concern regarding the construction output data in March’s data release, which indicated that the construction industry had technically entered recession in Q1, the ONS introduced an interim revision to the output price deflators in April. The result of the interim deflators has been to revise up construction output in 2014 and Q1, erasing the construction ‘recession’.

General Election 2015 - The 1974 Parallel

The 2015 General Election has drawn parallels in the news and media with the General Election of the 28 of February 1974 which resulted in a hung parliament. That year Labour, led by Harold Wilson, won 301 seats in the Commons and the Conservatives, led by Edward Heath, won 297 even though they won a larger share of the overall vote.

The Housing Battleground

With the election just over two months away, the much-discussed housing ‘crisis’ is hot on the political agenda and all parties have led with pledges focused on the housing market. Amongst them, we saw high national house building targets (from Labour and the Lib Dems), new-build discounts for young buyers to fulfil aspirations of home ownership (Conservatives) and across-the-board promises to release more land.
