UK housing market: expect the unexpected?

House prices across the UK have continued to grow strongly, according to the latest figures from the ONS. The average cost of a home in UK reached £287,000 in October, the highest since records began and a 7.0% increase year-on-year. Unsurprisingly, London continues to remain the most expensive city, with the average cost of a home recorded at £531,000 in October – 51.6% higher than at the pre-recession peak.

For “we are the builders”… of how many affordable homes?

The number The Spending Review and Autumn Statement saw the headline-grabbing announcement of 400,000 affordable homes starts over the current parliament. This comprises: • 200,000 Starter Homes • 135,000 Help to Buy: shared ownership homes • 10,000 Rent to Buy homes • 8,000 specialist homes for older people or those with disabilities • The remainder (around 50,000) from “existing commitments”

Construction industry remains optimistic despite Q3 slowdown

Growth in the construction industry accelerated to its fastest rate in 2014. While we are unlikely to see growth rates near such levels in the coming years, prospects for the industry still appear bright. Construction output is forecast to grow 3.6% in 2015 and 3.8% in 2016 – and overall 19.7% by 2019, according to our latest Autumn Forecast.
