Following the tragic events at Grenfell Tower, the CPA wishes to echo the words of colleagues across the construction industry in sending our condolences to all those who have been affected. We pay tribute to the heroic actions of the emergency services’ response to this incident.

There is significant discussion between government and industry on what needs to be done in light of the event. This may require the CPA to set up a task group, but for the immediate future we will be engaging with our Technical Committee and stakeholders across our membership. This will be led by Peter Caplehorn, CPA Deputy Chief Executive and Head of Policy.

As a chartered architect with more than 35 years’ experience, Peter chairs RIBA’s Regulations and Standards Group and oversaw the task group that investigated the 2009 Lakanhal House fire. He also is the deputy chair of the Building Regulations and Advisory Committee (BRAC) and a member of the Institute of Fire Engineers.

There has been much public speculation about the cause and spread of the fire. At this period of time we will wait until factual evidence is established before commenting on the specifics.

We will be coordinating our response with CPA members as well as the wider supply chain and other industry bodies, including the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), BuildUK, and government departments.

Our current statement we are issuing to media is:

Dr Diana Montgomery, Chief Executive at the Construction Products Association said: “Following the tragic events at Grenfell Tower, I want to echo the words of colleagues across the construction industry in sending our condolences to all those who have been affected. Whilst speculation about the cause should be avoided, this disaster reminds us all too importantly of the need to think first and foremost of the safety of residents and occupants in all buildings.”

We would like to remind members that the CPA are here to support you in any way.
