Today, 1st July, is CE Day which is a bit like VE Day in that it has something to do with Europe. Unfortunately it is not victory but the more mundane Conformite European that is upon us.
In common parlance this is CE marking and to be more precise, mandatory CE marking for those products covered by harmonised European standards. Over the past six months my colleague Duncan King and I have been working on getting news of this change to members and also negotiating a national agreement with Trading Standards on guidance for the use of websites to provide Declarations of Performance and CE marking information. So far this Primary Authority Agreement has been highly successful with over 80 companies representing several billion pounds of sales signed up.
For those of you for whom this means nothing, just be grateful!
