Weather disruption and the demise of Carillion resulted in a mixed performance for the UK construction supply chain in the first quarter of 2018 according to the Construction Products Association’s Construction Trade Survey for 2018 Q1.

Construction Output Fell by Over £1 Billion in Q1

ONS figures published today show that construction output decreased 2.7% in the first quarter of 2018. The fall was broad-based but was led by an 8.8% decline in public house building activity and a 5.9% reduction in public non-housing work.

Construction Drags Down Q1 GDP

The ONS today published its preliminary estimate for GDP in the first quarter of 2018. The release shows that the economy grew by just 0.1%, down from 0.4% in 2016 Q4 and its slowest growth since 2012 Q4.
