*An Important Note on The Dorchester (8 April 2019)

The Construction Product Association’s (CPA) Annual General Meeting and Spring Lunch will take place at the Dorchester Hotel in nearly one week’s time. Given that the hotel is owned by the Brunei sovereign wealth fund, the CPA would like to express its regret and concern over recent decisions by the Brunei authorities to introduce death by stoning for homosexuality and adultery from 3 April in the country. In light of calls from LGBT and human rights groups to boycott the hotel, the CPA finds itself sadly unable to make alternative arrangements in such a short amount of time, given the extensive preparations already taken place for the nearly 500 members and guests planning to attend the event. The CPA nevertheless supports the rightful condemnation of these human rights abuses and will seek out an alternative venue to host its Spring Lunch in 2020. We will be making a charitable donation to Human Dignity Trust – an organisation working globally to support strategic litigation to challenge laws that persecute people on the basis of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. We urge any action directed at The Dorchester - whose inclusion and diversity policies differ greatly from Brunei’s - to consider, first and foremost, the safety and wellbeing of employees and affiliated staff of the hotel.
