Political Engagement

Much of the CPA’s work is focused on serving as the first point of contact for politicians and policy makers requiring advice and information about numerous matters that affect construction products or the wider construction industry.  This may include, for example, understanding the need for investment into manufacturing or the built environment, particularly infrastructure, new housing and energy-saving retrofitting of the existing housing stock; helping to develop effective, coherent UK and EU legislation, regulations and product standards; or promoting the crucial role and achievements of manufacturers in delivering a low carbon, resource efficient built environment.

Our political engagement activities can substitute for or complement those of our members.  Since we are product neutral and support all materials equally, our strength is to represent and mobilise the construction products industry as a whole on issues which are most effectively dealt with by working together.  Because of the wide range of members’ interests and priorities, we regularly support and lobby a number of government and public bodies in the UK and abroad, such as:

  • Bank of England
  • Cabinet Office
  • Department for Business Innovation & Skills
  • Department for Communities & Local Government
  • Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs
  • Department of Energy & Climate Change
  • HM Treasury • Innovate UK
  • Office for National Statistics
  • UK Trade & Investment
  • various Directorate-Generals within the European Commission
